About Australian & New Zealand Spinal Cord Society (ANZSCoS)
ANZSCoS, the Australia and New Zealand Spinal Cord Society, is an organisation dedicated to research, innovation, education, service delivery and improvement, and advocacy in the area of traumatic and non-traumatic spinal cord injuries. Their mission spans across a wide array of areas, including injury prevention, research, medical and surgical treatment, clinical best practices, educational initiatives, rehabilitation, and the facilitation of social equity and access for individuals with spinal cord injuries.
ANZSCoS is an affiliated society of the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS), contributing to the global network of expertise in the field.
The Society is formed from a multi-disciplinary group of medical and allied health professionals from many specialties including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, rehabilitation engineers, exercise physiologists, physical educators, continence specialists, dietitians, orthotists/prosthetists, psychologists, social workers, consumers and those with a lived experience.
About ANZCoS Annual Scientific Meeting 2024
The meeting is an opportunity for all participants to explore personal, social, and planetary sustainability through conversations on the power of connections & relationships, the purpose and process of equity & justice, and how we can come together for collective healing. The conference promises to be an enriching experience with a robust program for all participants as it includes a diverse array of topics within the field of Spinal Cord Injuries, ensuring that there is something for everyone.
The meeting will take place over two and a half days in November 2024. The scientific program will begin at lunchtime on Wednesday 26 November with pre-conference workshops and Discipline Specific Meeting and will conclude after Afternoon Tea on Friday 29 November. A welcome reception will take place on Wednesday 26 November within the Exhibition area and the Meeting Dinner will take place on Thursday evening 27 November.

Breakfast Topic: Relationships in Disability Support
Stewart will discuss the benefits both for the person being supported and those supporting the person, of the long-standing therapeutic relationship. He will discuss the importance of relationship from many different perspectives, and how meaning is made from the random through relationship. This is a story of his journey from Critical Care Nurse to McArthur Health Support, and a key client he has supported for the past 26 years along the way.

Stewart is a Registered Nurse with 30+ years’ experience working across the Acute Health, Community care and Disability sectors. 20 years ago, Stewart made the decision to focus solely on Community Care and initially began working in the Adelaide disability sector assisting young children making the transition home from hospital while being mechanically ventilated. Since then, Stewart has helped define a system of Delegated Care in South Australia and has been a major contributor to the development of DSP-15 which is now the DHS Direct Health Support for a person with a Disability Policy and Guideline.
Stewart is a member of the Spinal Injury Nurses Association, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Nursing Group, Australian Nursing and Midwife Association and a Clinical Lead for Disability in the Adelaide Primary Health Network.
